Arlington Heights-Did you know?
Arlington Heights is an economically strong village located 25 miles northwest of Chicago. Arlington Heights is divided into a number of subdivisions and is aptly named for a Village of Good Neighbors!
In each neighborhood, there is a central park area for neighbors to hook up, watch the kids playing soccer or playing on the playgrounds. It seems to me to have a lot of small town appeal even though there are 18,000 single family homes and probably 12000 multi family homes. What kind of home styles you'll see, depends on the neighborhood. I was raised in Pioneer Park area which has split level homes, ranches and Colonials. Closer to the town center at Northwest Hwy and Dunton, you'll see bungalows, Queen Annes, Colonials, cape cods and Georgians with a few ranches for good measure. Most of the area are all brick homes, but you'll find the half and half, as well as stucco, frame or sided homes. Most of the homes were built when a one car garage was a luxury close to town, but you will find some 2 car attached garage homes, when the lot to handle the space needed.
In the 1990's Arlington Heights revitalized their downtown area. New Condo's close to the Metra station were built allowing the empty nesters to be able to stay in Arlington Hts, and the young adults to start their new beginnings. Plenty of parking was offered for the newer construction. With the new look, Arlington Heights Village Hall was torn down, and built back up. The Village wanted to have their headquarters to have that same new look. The downtown district sets the tone for the friendly village it is, with restaurants offering outdoor eating areas, parks with fountains, and new boutique stores.
One great pride for Arlington Heights is the Library at Dunton and Euclid avenue in the Historic District. The library has been awarded a five star rating by the Library Journal's Index of Public Library Service. Did you know that only 1% of all the library get this award? Books, movies, artwork and lectures can be had at this library.
Top ranked District 25 Schools, and outstanding Arlington Heights Park District (which offers the CAP, after school programs for after/before school care activities) are all the ingrediants to attract new citizens to the Village. However, as a credit to Arlington Heights, it hasn't lost its family-friendly charm, which keeps people here to stay.
Enjoy the display in Arlington Heights during the Christmas season at North School Park on Arlington Heights Rd.
